Second Son, the book I edited for my uncle, is a historical southern novel complete at 98,000. I’m in the middle of that no-man’s land known as the search for a literary agent or publisher. One agent asked to see the full manuscript, and several others have been very encouraging. One regional press also asked for the manuscript, and I’m hoping to hear back soon. It’s exciting and frustrating. The best advice I’ve received is to get started writing the next book in this family saga. Two more books are planned: Southern Woman, about the young woman who marries that good-looking guy in the picture when he comes back from World War II; and Southern Soldier, about their son, when he comes back from a disastrous first tour in the Korean Conflict only to land in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement.
